Report: Von Miller fined $21,000

ESPN.com news services

Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller was fined $21,000 for his low hit on Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, according to a Denver Post report.

Miller was flagged for roughing the passer on the play. Miller was knocked down on the play, but wrapped up Newton low around his ankles on his second effort.

"How am I supposed to know if he threw the ball or not?" Miller told the Denver Post. "I was down on the ground -- actually the guard facemasked me and threw me into the quarterback. I'm supposed to what? Stand straight up and continue with the tackle?"

The Post reported Broncos defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson was fined $15,000 for a horse-collar tackle on Newton in the same game.
