Over the past couple of years, Marc Willers has been one of the most consistent riders on the planet. In 2010 he was the long shot in taking the ABA #1 title, but at the end of the races, the numbers just didn't work out. In 2011, he came back, saw and conquered. For 2012, Willers eyes were set on an Olympic medal. An unfortunate fall in qualifying kept him from the dream, but he is back on the USA BMX circuit with a vengeance. Sitting in second behind current World Champion (and 2010 ABA title winner) Sam Willoughby, the points race will come down to the main at the USA BMX Grands taking place Thanksgiving weekend in Tulsa, Okla. Last month, I had the chance to meet up with Marc and shoot some photos of his DK current setup, comprised mainly of BOX components that will be released to the public in the near future. Titanium and ceramic are abundant in his setup, making this one of the lightest and smoothest adult sized BMX bikes out there.
For anyone out there who wants to set up a bike as closely as possible to Marc, here's a list to get started with.
Bars: BOX Maximus
Stem: BOX Delta
Hubs: Race Ceramics carbon fiber
Tires: Maxxis Torch 1.75 front and rear
Cranks: Shimano 180 DXR
Pedals: Shimano, with custom awesomeness so I never clip out.
Seat: BOX with BOX Carbon post, BOX Seat Clamp
"Titanium bolts throughout. Ceramic bearings throughout. Rolls better than any bike on the planet." -Marc Willers
