Pats WR Julian Edelman injures foot
By Field Yates
MIAMI -- New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was using crutches and wearing a walking boot when he briefly emerged from the locker room after suffering a foot injury in the team's AFC East-clinching victory against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
Edelman left the game in the fourth quarter and was announced as questionable to return. Entering the game, he was questionable to play due to a concussion sustained against the New York Jets on Thanksgiving.
The fourth-year player has emerged as a third wide receiver for the Patriots and a valuable special-teamer. He scored on special teams in each of the team's previous two games.
In Edelman's absence Sunday, special teams ace Matthew Slater was inserted as the third receiver.
The Patriots already are without tight end Rob Gronkowski, one of their main threats in the passing game, who suffered a broken forearm Nov. 18 against the Indianapolis Colts.
