In 2002, a series of mysterious ads began appearing in BMX magazines featuring riders such as Alistair Whitton, John Jennings, Ryan Sher, Byron Anderson and Joe Simon. Ultimately, the ads debuted a new BMX component brand from Florida known as The Shadow Conspiracy. Fronted by Ron Bonner, who formerly ran BMX clothing brand UGP, The Shadow Conspiracy took a different route than the brands of the time. They combined iconic imagery (which channeled classic Hitchcock films) with innovative parts, including the half-link chain. Videos, trips and additional pro team riders followed, and now, ten years later, The Shadow Conspiracy is one of the top component brands in BMX.
To celebrate the anniversary, Ron Bonner flew the entire Shadow team to Orlando, Fla. for a ten-year anniversary party, which included bowling, karaoke and appearances from legendary riders such as Mike Griffin. ESPN contributing photographer Aaron Nardi was on hand for the party. Check the gallery for an inside look.
