Eblouissante ready for next start
Eblouissante, a half sister to 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta who won her first start at 1 1/16 miles by 4 1/4 lengths, is entered in the seventh race Jan. 17 at Santa Anita Park.
Five horses were entered in the 1 1/16-mile race.
Eric Kronfield's homebred Eblouissante is trained by John Shirreffs, who directed Zenyatta to 19 victories in her first 19 races before suffering her only defeat in the 2010 Breeders' Cup Classic.
Eblouissante captured her debut under Corey Nakatani at Betfair Hollywood Park Nov. 16.
"I worked her before I rode her," said Corey Nakatani, who retains the mount on Eblouissante Thursday. "She's a special filly."
Eblouissante was entered in an allowance race at Hollywood Dec. 15 but was scratched about an hour beforehand when she banged her hip on a stall door in the receiving barn and sustained an abrasion.
The daughter of Bernardini out of the Kris S. mare Vertigineux has worked four times over Hollywood's Cushion Track since that incident. In a five-furlong move Jan. 12, she was clocked in 1:00 4/5, sixth quickest of 33 at the distance.
"Hopefully, she comes back and runs like she did in her first race," Nakatani said. "I'm sure John has her spot-on, so I'm looking forward to riding her again."
Entered in the race: Double Ante, Joe Talamo; Viva Carina, Edwin Maldonado; Folk Dancer, Julien Leparoux; Pink Blossom, Alonso Quinonez; and Eblouissante, Nakatani.
