ESPN.com news services
The Philadelphia Flyers put Jody Shelley on injured reserve Tuesday, and he will have surgery on his hip in about a week, general manager Paul Holmgren told CSNPhilly.com.
Shelley had played in just one game this season. Holmgren told the website the hip issue had been ongoing and was not improving.
Shelley, 37, had two goals and three assists over the previous two seasons in Philadelphia. The Flyers recalled Harry Zolnierczyk from the AHL to make up for the loss of Shelley, according to The Sports Network. Zolnierczyk had three goals and three assists in 37 games for Philadelphia last season.
