Quin Blanding commits to Virginia
By Dave Hooker
ESPN Watch List prospect Quin Blanding has committed to Virginia over Ohio State and dozens of other scholarship offers.
The 6-foot-2, 196-pound safety from Virginia Beach (Va.) Bayside announced his decision at his school on Wednesday afternoon.
Blanding, who will be high on the ESPN 150 list when the 2014 version debuts this spring, said last week his finalists were Clemson, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, NC State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Virginia and West Virginia.
Blanding has been a standout for quite some time. He was picked to participate in Gridiron Kings as a rising junior last summer and was also one of three Class of 2014 prospects selected to The Opening.
Blanding has strong ties to the Cavaliers. His teammate, 2013 running back Taquan Mizzell, signed with Virginia in February.
Virginia now has two commitments in the 2014 class. Defensive tackle Chris Nelson of Lakeland (Va.) Victory Christian committed to the Cavs in August.
