Profar, 20, is expected to join the team on Thursday and will play in the championship round of the WBC at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Profar will replace injured infielder Yurendell de Caster.
A native of Willemstad, Curacao, Profar declined an initial invitation to play in the WBC, electing to remain with the Rangers for spring training in Arizona while the Netherlands played its first three games in Taichung, Taiwan. He is eligible for the tournament because Curacao is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Profar brings his heralded defensive play at shortstop to a team that advanced to the final four, where it seeks to beat the odds and win the international tournament. He has received extensive playing time during Cactus League play and is batting .222 (8 for 36) with five runs scored and five RBIs.
Profar is ranked the top overall prospect by ESPN's Keith Law, Baseball America and MLB.com.
