The Miami Dolphins officially released their new logo on Monday, a week after the image was leaked on the Internet and caused a stir among sports fans in South Florida.

The initial plan was to announce the new logo later this month before the NFL draft. But after several Internet leaks, which included one Dolphins player posting a picture of a shirt with the new logo on a social media site, the team decided to send the logo out to the media Monday.
The new design removes the helmet and shows a sleeker version of the dolphin. The orange burst around the dolphin also is bigger than in the original.
One of the early complaints from Miami fans is the eyes of the dolphin are smaller and appear to be nearly closed.
Miami will take the field in 2013 with a new look throughout the organization. The Dolphins also made several roster upgrades by signing free-agent receiver Mike Wallace, cornerback Brent Grimes, tight end Dustin Keller and linebackers Dannell Ellerbe and Philip Wheeler.
