Penn State guard Tim Frazier granted 5th year

Associated Press

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Injured Penn State point guard Tim Frazier has been granted a medical hardship waiver by the NCAA for a fifth year of eligibility.

Frazier sat out all but four games last season because of a left Achilles injury. He was the second-leading scorer in the Big Ten the previous season at 18.8 points per game.

Frazier had surgery in November. The team says Frazier is running again and jumping rope, and is on scheduled to be a full participant in the offseason workout program by midsummer.

Losing Frazier last season was tough blow for Penn State, which finished 10-21 (2-16 Big Ten). But the team has a brighter outlook for next year with Frazier returning to join guards D.J. Newbill (16.3 points) and Jermaine Marshall (15.3 points).
