Level 1 Productions has been running their Superunknown contest for 10 years now. It's a video talent search for the next great freeskier. In past years, then unheard of skiers like Tom Wallisch, Jon Brogan, and Logan Imlach have won the contest, launching their careers.
This year's Superunknown X brought in over 100 entries from young and hungry skiers all over the world. Level 1 staffers and athletes narrowed it down to 11 finalists, and after a week of filming in Sun Valley, Idaho, recently voted to pick their overall favorite. The winner was Sweden's Magnus Graner.
Graner walked away with $5,000, a chance to film with Level 1, and a sponsorship with Monster Energy.
"This is pretty much the best contest and I was so excited to make finals with so many amazing entries," 19-year-old Graner said.
Level 1 staffers said this year's judging process was the most difficult in the 10-year history of the event and the talent pool continues to increase each year.
