Corvette to be Indy 500 pace car
INDIANAPOLIS -- The 2014 Corvette Stingray will be the pace car at this year's Indianapolis 500.
It's the 12th time a Corvette will lead the traditional 33-car field around Indy's historic 2.5-mile oval.
The car will be painted Laguna Blue Tintcoat and the only modifications from the car sold to the public will be the safety features. The engine will not be altered.
General Motors has a long history with the 500. In addition to being a regular on the pace-car list, Oldsmobile was the sole engine producer during the late 1990s and early 2000s and returned to the series in 2011. The Chevrolet brothers -- Louis, Arthur and Gaston -- all drove in the race, and Gaston Chevrolet won in 1920.
This year's race is scheduled for May 26.
