PHILADELPHIA -- Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz was activated from the disabled list Tuesday.
Ruiz, an All-Star last year, was sidelined with a hamstring injury. To make room for Ruiz, catcher Steven Lerud was sent to Triple-A Lehigh Valley before the start of the game against the Washington Nationals.
Ruiz batted eighth for Philadelphia and went 1 for 3 and caught all nine innings of the Phillies' 4-2 win.
Ruiz had played in 16 games and was hitting .235 with two RBIs before going on the disabled list. He was suspended the first 25 games for using a banned amphetamine.
