Atlanta Braves infielder Ramiro Pena will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery Thursday, MLB.com reported Wednesday night.
Pena visited with Dr. James Andrews to assess a torn labrum in Pena's right shoulder on Wednesday after being placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 21. Pena hurt the shoulder when he landed on it after making two diving catches in a win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 9, according to MLB.com.
"Every team is going to have injuries and the team that can survive those injuries is going to be there at the end," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez told MLB.com. "We have plenty of candidates that you feel comfortable with that can do that job."
The 27-year-old Pena hit .278 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in 50 games this season.
