CHICAGO -- Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman said Thursday he will use his two compliance buyouts on defenseman Steve Montador and forward Rostislav Olesz.

The buyouts will allow the Blackhawks, who just won their second Stanley Cup in four seasons, to add $5.875 million of cap space for next season and $2.75 million for the following season. Teams are allowed two compliance buyouts between June 2013 and June 2014 per the new collective bargaining agreement.

"We're going to proceed using those on Montador and Olesz," Bowman said at the United Center on Thursday. "The first step is to place them on waivers, which we were going to be doing, and then following that if they go unclaimed, then we're going to proceed with the buyout."

Montador had two years left on his contract. His salary would have been $2.3 million during the 2013-14 season and $1.8 million for the 2014-15 season. The cap hit would have been $2.75 million for each season.

Olesz had one year left on his contract. His salary would have been $4.25 million and his cap hit would have been $3.125 million next season.
