Oregon lands guard Joseph Young

Oregon has landed Houston transfer Joseph Young, his father told ESPN.com via text message Friday.

Young, a 6-foot-3 guard who averaged 18 points per game last season for the Cougars, will become Dana Altman's latest one-year transfer. Young will likely sit out this season and have one year of eligibility left, although he could attempt to get a waiver from the NCAA to play this season.

Young's father, former Houston player Michael Young, was reassigned by Houston coach James Dickey recently from his position as director of basketball operations -- and decided to leave the program.

Young's presence could be a huge lift for the Ducks, who have been successful with short-term transfers since Altman arrived in Eugene. Oregon brought in Arsalan Kazemi late last summer and added Minnesota one-year transfer Devoe Joseph two years ago. Young could form a potent perimeter trio with point guard Dominic Artis and Damyean Dotson.
