King Kreesa wins Belmont's Poker Stakes

NEW YORK -- King Kreesa rolled to a pacesetting victory Thursday, beating Howe Great by 1½ lengths in the $150,000 Poker Stakes on the turf at Belmont Park.

A 4-year-old New York-bred gelding, King Kreesa got his fifth win 14 starts with Irad Ortiz, Jr. aboard for trainer Jeremiah Englehart. He ran the mile in 1:33.65, paying $11, $5.50 and $6.50 as the 9-2 second choice.

Howe Great returned $7.20 and $7.40 while Big Screen paid $13.60 to show.

Data Link ran fourth as the 3-5 favorite.
