COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Records show that then-Ohio State president Gordon Gee took his time apologizing for remarks critical of Roman Catholics, the University of Notre Dame and Southeastern Conference schools.

Retired Ohio State president Gordon Gee took his time apologizing following critical comments about Catholics, Notre Dame and SEC schools.

The records indicate that Gee waited several weeks to start the process despite a March letter from university trustees directing him to begin promptly.

A copy of Gee's calendar obtained by The Associated Press shows Gee only began the apologies after a request was made for the audiotape of a December meeting where Gee made the critical comments.

The calendar indicates that Gee waited more than two months before visiting Notre Dame's president and calling the SEC commissioner.

Gee retired July 1 after announcing his departure just weeks earlier.
