DEL MAR, Calif. -- Eight-year-old Richard's Kid rallied past favorite Sky Kingdom to win the $100,000 Cougar II Handicap by a half-length Friday at Del Mar, ending a winless streak dating to the same race last year.

Ridden by Joseph Talamo for trainer Doug O'Neill, Richard Kid sat sixth in the field of seven early, moved to third on the final turn and passed pacesetter Blueskiesnrainbows and Sky Kingdom in the final yards, covering 1½ miles in 2:30.93.

He paid $10.80, $3.60 and $3. Sky Kingdom returned $2.80 and $2.40, and Blueskiesandrainbows paid $4.60 to show.
