Blaine Gabbert injury not serious

By Ed Werder

Blaine Gabbert's ankle injury is not believed to be serious, but if the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback complains of soreness, he could miss a day or two of practice, a team source said.

Blaine Gabbert was having one of his better days at camp Monday before he left with an ankle injury.

The Jaguars are not scheduled to practice Tuesday.

Gabbert, who was carted from the practice field Monday with the ankle injury, participated in the team's walk-through later that night. Coach Gus Bradley called the injury a "freak deal."

Veteran guard Uche Nwaneri stepped on Gabbert's ankle while trying to move to pick up a stunting defensive end. Gabbert fell to the ground and then slammed his helmet against the grass in frustration.

Gabbert, a former first-round draft pick, is competing with Chad Henne for the Jaguars' starting quarterback position.

Gabbert played his entire rookie season in 2011 with a nagging toe injury. He missed the final six games last season after injuring his right forearm. He also played through a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder.

Before the collision, Gabbert was having one of his better days in camp. Two days after a rough practice that included several botched snaps, Gabbert completed 11 of 15 passes in 11-on-11 drills Monday.
