Bill Johnson's health has 'improved tremendously'
The mother of Bill Johnson says the former Olympic downhill champion has "improved tremendously" since he elected to no longer go through treatment for an infection that was attacking his major organs.
D.B. Johnson-Cooper said in a phone interview Wednesday that Johnson returned to his assisted living facility in Gresham, Ore., and has "improved every day." She added: "I do believe the infection has been combatted and he's doing fine."
The 53-year-old Johnson decided two weeks ago to no longer use supplemental oxygen or take antibiotics that could help him deal with a life-threatening infection. Johnson has lost the use of muscles to support his body, but can move a few fingers on his left hand.
In recent years, Johnson's health has been on the decline due to a stroke.
