The Toronto Blue Jays placed left fielder Melky Cabrera back on the 15-day disabled list Thursday night after he injured his left knee during a loss to the Los Angeles Angels.
Cabrera was activated off the DL on July 21 after missing 18 games due to a sore knee.
Thursday night, Cabrera picked up Erick Aybar's single and lost control of the ball while attempting to throw it back to the cutoff man, allowing Mark Trumbo to score the Angels' sixth run in their eventual 8-2 win.
The ball comically popped into the air and landed behind Cabrera, who left the game in the fourth inning with what the club called irritation in his left knee.
Cabrera went 0-for-1 on Thursday and is batting .279.
Neil Wagner, who has a 3.26 ERA, last pitched for the Blue Jays in an 8-5 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on July 19, was recalled from the minors.
