Source: Floyd avoids major damage

ESPN.com news services

A second opinion on San Diego Chargers wide receiver Malcom Floyd's knee revealed no structural damage, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Doctors told him his time frame will depend on how he feels, according to the source.

Floyd sustained a strained knee in a collision with cornerback Shareece Wright during practice Monday. The team's other starter at wide receiver, Danario Alexander, was lost for the season after he tore the ACL in his right knee in a collision with Wright last Tuesday.

It is still expected that the earliest Floyd would be able to return would be the regular-season opener against the Houston Texans in the second half of ESPN's "Monday Night Football" doubleheader, and possibly not until Week 2 when the Chargers travel to play the Philadelphia Eagles.

Information from ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter was used in this report.
