Alex Rodriguez has added another high-profile attorney to his legal team.
Joe Tacopina, a well-known defense lawyer, will help the New York Yankees' third baseman in his legal battle against Major League Baseball, Tacopina confirmed in an email Wednesday.
Last week, MLB suspended Rodriguez 211 games for violating baseball's drug policy and impeding its investigation into the Biogenesis clinic. Rodriguez is appealing the penalty.
Tacopina has served as the defense lawyer in several high-profile cases in New York, including those of ex-NYPD officer Kenneth Moreno, and Lillo Brancato, who was accused of killing a police officer.
Tacopina is known as a strong cross-examiner. That strength may be vital for A-Rod's legal team if it chooses to attack the credibility of Tony Bosch, the founder of Biogenesis and one of the key cogs in the case against those suspended with ties to the now-defunct clinic.
Tacopina's hiring was first reported by the New York Post.
