When talking about who had the best week, Alfonso Soriano has to be near the top of your list if not at the top of it. The AL player of the week joined Bronx Bombers greats Joe DiMaggio and Lou Gehrig as the only players to have a minimum of 18 runs in four games, while also tying a team record for most games with at least three hits and an RBI in the same span. Soriano's spectacular stretch was just enough to beat out Miguel Cabrera, who hit his AL second-best 40th home run of the season while helping the Tigers extend their division lead.
Rounding out the top three were a couple of speedsters. Joey Logano earned his first win of the season and gave Ford a Sprint Cup sweep at Michigan, while Jamaican teammates Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce lit up the track at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow with three gold medals apiece at the 14th IAAF World Championships.
