The Montreal Canadiens reached an agreement in principle on a one-year contract with free agent Douglas Murray, the team announced Thursday.
The deal is worth $1.5 million, a source told ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun.
The 6-foot-3 defenseman split last season between Pittsburgh and San Jose, scoring one goal and five assists.
Murray, 33, has seven career goals and 55 assists.
