PITTSBURGH -- Jarvis Jones bruised his chest last Saturday night, but the Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker confirmed Monday that he didn't receive much more than a scare when he was tackled at the end of an interception return.

Jarvis Jones, who left the stadium in a stretcher Saturday, was released from the hospital Sunday after X-rays on his chest came back negative.

"I'm fine," Jones said. "I'm kind of sore so they're going to let me take it day by day."

Jones, the Steelers' first-round pick in April, did not rule out practicing Monday or playing Thursday at Carolina in the Steelers' final preseason game.

The Steelers will exercise caution with Jones, just as they did after he got hurt in the fourth quarter of a 26-20 overtime loss to Kansas City. The Steelers had Jones taken to a hospital after the game even though he had come off the field on his own after initially staying down.

Jones got hurt after he landed on the ball and then a couple of Chiefs players landed on him. His interception didn't count because of a penalty on Steelers cornerback Josh Victorian, but the play provided another example of how Jones always seems to be around the ball.

He has forced a fumble and recovered a fumble in three preseason games. And Jones was the Steelers player who pounced on a loose ball after the Chiefs blocked a 52-yard field goal attempt by Shaun Suisham.

"Just running to the ball and coming up with some luck," Jones said when asked why he always seems to be around the ball.
