Pirates unsure when Morton, Rodriguez will start
ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Pittsburgh Pirates aren't sure if right-hander Charlie Morton will be able to make his next start.
Morton returned to Pittsburgh to receive medical attention after injuring his left foot in Sunday's game at St. Louis. He is expected to rejoin the team in Texas.
Manager Clint Hurdle said Monday the Pirates anticipate Morton throwing his next side session in Texas.
With 17 active pitchers on the roster, the Pirates have options if Morton can't make his scheduled start this weekend against the Chicago Cubs.
Hurdle says left-hander Wandy Rodriguez, on the disabled list since June 11 because of forearm tightness, is scheduled to throw a simulated game at home Thursday, and throw 65 or 70 pitches. He had a good side session Sunday.
