Well, this is just downright ugly. The Chargers should send a thank-you note to the Raiders and Jets for helping them avoid being regarded as the worst NFL franchise. A high score of 80? Five rankings in tripe digits? Brutal. The Chargers sold out only to 84.1 percent capacity last season (beating only Tampa Bay and Miami), and their average of 59,964 fans makes them one of only five teams to draw fewer than 60,000.
Maybe that's because at $9,they have the most expensive beer in the league (tied with the Bills). And perhaps fans are tired of taking out a loan to get drunk in order to avoid looking at the on-the-field product, which has been in serious decline over the past few years. In 2009 the Chargers were one of the best teams in the league, going 13-3. The past three years, they've won nine, eight, and seven games, respectively. That led to the ouster of longtime GM A.J. Smith and the always-embattled Norv Turner. Tom Telesco (via the Colts) is the new GM, and Mike McCoy (former Broncos offensive coordinator) is the new coach. Any change is likely welcome for a frustrated fan base that saw its team make the playoffs every year from 2006 to 2009.
