Welterweight titleholder Timothy Bradley's split decision victory against former four-division titleholder Juan Manuel Marquez on Oct. 12 in Las Vegas generated at least 375,000 pay-per-view buys, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told ESPN.com on Tuesday.
The fight, Bradley's second successful defense, also generated approximately $21.75 million in domestic television revenue on HBO PPV.
"The number of buys is between 375,000 and 390,000," Arum said. "It depends on a lot of stuff, some of the cable numbers which we don't fully have yet. But based on our history of doing pay-per-views, I think it will go closer to 390,000. It will definitely hit 375,000 and even a few months later we still get additional buys that come in."
Arum said he and Top Rank president Todd duBoef, Arum's stepson, have crunched the numbers and they are in slight disagreement.
"I'm confident we did over 375,000, closer to 390,000, but Todd thinks it's 375,000. Either way, it was a successful promotion that made money," Arum said.
Arum said he initially needed to sell a bit more than 300,000 pay-per-view units to break even, a number that went down to 275,000 due to a much better than expected closed circuit business.
"The closed circuit did extraordinarily well, which was a big plus," Arum said. "At the end of the day, [Top Rank] made over $2 million on the fight."
Marquez, who failed in his quest to become the first Mexican fighter to win a world title in five weight classes, earned $6 million. Bradley's purse was $4.1 million.
Also Tuesday, Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer released the gate figures for the fight, which took longer than usual to account for because the fight was at the Thomas & Mack Center, which does not report its final figures to the commission nearly as quickly as other venues in Las Vegas.
The fight generated a gate of $2,998,950 from 10,683 tickets sold. There were 1,370 complimentary tickets given away and 5,649 tickets went unsold.
