Chane Behanan could play next week

Louisville forward Chane Behanan practiced with the team Friday, the first time he's been allowed to return since being suspended indefinitely in mid-October, coach Rick Pitino said.

Behanan is now permitted to participate in all team activities except games.

"We said he had to go 30 days straight with no mess-ups before he could practice and he's done that,'' Pitino said. "I didn't think he could do the right thing for 30 days in a row -- getting up, coming over here at 6:45 in the morning, meeting curfew at night, getting through tutoring all day. I was a doubting Thomas, to say the least, but he's done all the right things.''

Pitino also told ESPN that if Behanan continues to do as he's told, he could play as early as next week. Last month, Pitino said the earliest Behanan could return to play was mid-December.

Louisville opens its season on Saturday against Charleston.

Behanan, who averaged 9.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last season, is not yet back living in the team dormitory. Pitino said that portion of his suspension will last at least until the end of the first semester.
