The Chicago Blackhawks signed 2013 first-round draft choice Ryan Hartman to a three-year contract Monday.
The 19-year-old Hartman, a forward, was selected 30th overall in the 2013 draft, is a native of West Dundee, Ill., and attended Fremd High School in Palatine, Ill.
Hartman has 10 goals and 11 assists in 20 games this season for the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League. He has 81 points in 76 career games with the Whalers.
Hartman played for the United States National Team Development Program from 2010 to 2012.
Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville spoke positively about Hartman during the team's training camp in September.
"I've liked him," Quenneville said in September. "I think one thing he brings is he's got a real good feel for the game. ... He's an effective player as far as play recognition, positionally aware. He sees and makes plays, and he knows where he is around the rink."
