Ohio State

Ohio State knocks off Miami in a double overtime thriller for the national title after a questionable -- and delayed -- pass interference call at the end of the first overtime period. It ends the Hurricanes' 34-game winning streak (September 23, 2000-January 3, 2003).

Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bryant is accused of rape while rehabbing a knee injury in Colorado.

Steriod Controversy

An anonymous whistleblower exposes Victor Conte and BALCO as the source for a new undetectable steroid, THG. The controversy engulfs 40 professional athletes, most notably Barry Bonds, Jason Giambi, Shane Mosley, and Marion Jones, who are all subpoenaed by a grand jury.

Cubs Fan Catch

In Game 6 of the NLCS, with Chicago five outs away from its first World Series appearance since 1945, Cubs fan Steve Bartman interferes with a foul ball that Moises Alou was attempting to catch in shallow left field. The incident paves the way for another Cubs collapse as the title drought reaches 95 years.

LeBron James

LeBron James, who's selected first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers, records 25 points, nine assists and six rebounds in his much-anticipated debut.
