SonyBeard? Check. Orange cleats? Check. Machine? It's not that type of game. Ask and ye shall receive.
When I first previewed "MLB 11: The Show," I talked about Brian Wilson's polygonal beard, adding that I wished Sony would also include the closer's signature orange cleats.
I was just contacted by Sony, and because of my request, it actually added Wilson's audacious spikes into the game.
Makes me wonder what else I should request. Cody Ross' home run hop? An appearance by The Machine?
Anyway, if you don't know the story of Wilson's orange cleats, the Giants closer was fined $1,000 for wearing them against the Marlins last season. Wilson's solution? He used a black Sharpie to color in 50 percent of the cleats to meet the criteria laid down by Major League Baseball's uniform police.
And although Wilson continued to wear the "Air Sharpie" shoes throughout the season, the full-blown orange cleats were seen only twice -- the MLB All-Star Game and the game against the Marlins when Florida manager Edwin Rodriguez's complaints led to Wilson's fine.
But now, thanks to the power of PlayStation, Wilson's video game doppelganger can sport the cool kicks he deemed "too awesome" for Major League Baseball anytime he chooses, and it won't even cost him a grand.
And although the shoes might not be the exact look of the Nikes that Wilson owns (Sony doesn't have the rights to use Nike cleats in the game), they're close enough for Giants fans looking to keep their cyber closer happy.
In other words, virtual Wilson is ready to rage right now.
The rest of us will have to hold off on raging until "MLB 11: The Show" ships to stores on March 8.
