ORONO, Maine -- Maine football coach Jack Cosgrove received a contract extension through 2007 on Wednesday.

He will receive $115,000 this season, followed by raises culminating with a salary of $140,000 in 2007. He had been without a contract since July 1.

Cosgrove has a 53-61 record over 10 seasons at Maine, leading the Black Bears to Atlantic 10 championships the last two seasons. He has twice been the conference's coach of the year.

In January, university president Peter Hoff admonished Cosgrove and interim athletic director Paul Bubb for failing to enforce the school's conduct code. A star linebacker who admitted to steroid possession was allowed to play the last four games.
