Fiedler held out of practice, but no QB starter named yet

DAVIE, Fla. -- Miami Dolphins quarterback Jay Fiedler was held out of practice with a knee injury Friday, increasing the chance that Brian Griese will make his first start for the team Monday night at San Diego.

Coach Dave Wannstedt said Fiedler's left knee was sore and doctors advised him to rest.

Wannstedt has said all week that he will announce a starting quarterback Monday before the game.

"Nothing has changed as far as a decision," Wannstedt said Friday.

Griese, signed from Denver in June, has not played in a game since the preseason and missed six weeks after injuring a toe in an exhibition game against Atlanta in August.

Also, defensive tackle Larry Chester returned to practice after being away from the team for two days. He was excused for personal reasons.

"My wife wasn't feeling up to par," Chester said. "She's feeling better now, so I'm feeling better."

Chester is also listed as questionable for Monday night's game. He hurt his shoulder in the Dolphins' 19-13 overtime loss to New England on Sunday, but said he expects to play against the Chargers.

Chester has started the first six games and has 26 tackles and one fumble recovery.
