BIG SPRINGS, Texas -- James Daniel scored 28 points to help Howard University defeat Washington College 69-52 in a season opener Friday night.

Daniel was also 6-of-10 from the three-point line and hit 6-of-7 free throws. Prince Okoroh added 17 points with 11 of those coming after the break. Marcel Boyd led the team in rebounds with eight.

Daniel scored eight of his points during a key two-minute stretch that saw the Bison pull away after the Shoremen had mounted a comeback. He hit two three pointers and converted on two free throws, giving Howard the lead for good at 44-36.

The Bison came out of the blocks applying full-court pressure and went to their bench early and often.

Washington College was able to stay close on the three-point shooting of Sean Flanagan who had a team-high 18 points.
