EAST RUJTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants weakside linebacker Carlos Emmons will miss Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins with a chest injury.

Emmons, who was hurt in the loss to Seattle on Sept. 24, created a stir in the locker room on Tuesday, saying he might play this weekend. The original diagnosis called for him to be sidelined about three weeks with a slightly torn pectoral muscle.

After saying he would not question Emmons, coach Tom Coughlin said the 11-year veteran would miss the game.

Either Rookie Gerris Wilkinson or veteran Brandon Short will replace him. It will likely be Wilkinson because Short, who had knee surgery in the offseason, has been inactive for the first three games.

"Gerris has made good progress," Coughlin said. "He really has. He's been steady and when given an opportunity to play, he's played OK. He's done a good job, so we'll see."
