Henrik Zetterberg scored with 16.4 seconds left in the third to tie it, Justin Abdelkader scored and Jimmy Howard stopped 23 shots to help the Red Wings win their first road game since moving to the Eastern Conference.
Zetterberg sent it into overtime when he pushed a loose puck past Ward after a scramble in front of the net. Ward lost his stick while stopping a shot from Daniel Alfredsson a moment earlier.
Weiss then ended it when he stuffed a loose puck past Ward.
ISLANDERS 4, DEVILS 3, SO
NEWARK, N.J. -- Matt Moulson scored the only goal of the shootout in the sixth round and New York opened the season with a victory over New Jersey.
Evgeni Nabokov made 26 saves and stopped all six Devils shots in the shootout as the Islanders won a season opener for the first time since 2007.
Brodeur stopped the Islanders first five shootout attempts before Moulson put a shot just under the crossbar.
SENATORS 1, SABRES 0
Former Sabres forward Clarke MacArthur set up the goal to spoil the Sabres' home opener.
Driving up the left wing, MacArthur slipped a pass through the middle to set up Karlsson alone in the right circle. Karlsson got just enough of the puck to direct it toward the net and under goalie Ryan Miller's legs.
Miller had a solid outing despite the loss in stopping 45 shots.
Karlsson's goal came a half-minute after Anderson made a huge glove save at the other end, stopping rookie Zemgus Girgensons' shot from the high slot.
FLAMES 4, BLUE JACKETS 3
Goalie Joey MacDonald made 29 saves.
JETS 5, KINGS 3
Ondrej Pavelec finished with 33 saves for Winnipeg.
Blake Wheeler had a goal called back in the second because the net was off its moorings.
Failing to control the puck in their own zone cost both the Jets and Kings in the first period, although the Kings put on most of the pressure, outshooting the Jets 18-7.
AVALANCHE 3, PREDATORS 1
The game featured two of the top four picks in last June's draft. MacKinnon was taken first overall and Seth Jones, a Denver native, was picked fourth by the Predators.
