Nice speech by Michelle Obama last night, right? (Question: when Barack appeared on the video wall, did he say within 10 seconds that he was in "Kansas City" then "St. Louis?") We decided to take the occasion to honor athlete wives and girlfriends (the blogs call 'em WAGs) via Clip Reel. One thing should be noted: Michelle is undoubtedly a beautiful woman, but also a Harvard Law-educated former hospital manager. We're not trying to equate her to, say, Lisa Dergan. We're just showcasing sporting examples of standing by your man, whether you're addressing a packed Pepsi Center or not. (Come to think of it, LaLa Vasquez may have done that too!)
This is a good resource on athletes and who their wives/girlfriends are.
We did a Rankings on it once, too!
Elsa Benitez was Rony Seikaly's wife.
She appears in this Kylie Minogue video.
Despite T.O.'s claims about Jeff Garcia at one point, he's married to Carmella DeCesare.
We didn't know this one until just now: Veronica Varekova is Petr Nedved's girl?
Here's more of her, from a Sports Illustrated photoshoot.
Some info on their (extremely expensive) wedding.
Heather Mitts (A.J. Feely's girl) playing Wii Fit.
We're going to include Kelly Slater in this, because he's been linked to a series of females, none of whom ultimately was as supportive to him as Michelle is to Barack.
Jennifer Walcott is engaged to Adam Archuleta.
Eva Longoria and Tony Parker's wedding, in French!
Talk about support: here they are filming a rap video together.
And, via the lowest form of celebrity journalism, here they are ordering takeout.
Jennie Finch (Casey Daigle).
Maybe the best ever: Marilyn and Joe (granted, they were married less than 300 days).
Anna Benson is definitely supportive of her husband's career (and needs).
FHM pic for good measure.
Posh and Becks.
Hamm and Garciaparra.
Agassi and Graf.
Elizabeth Hasselbeck and Tim.
Misty May-Treanor and Matt.
Rodney and Holly Robinson Peete.
Jason Sehorn and Angie Harmon.
Scott Erickson and Lisa Guerrero.
Another good resource.
And another good resource.
