Serena Destroys US Open Karaoke (Which Is Apparently a Thing)

With tennis’ biggest stars congregated in New York for next week’s US Open, Delta decided Wednesday night was the perfect time to host a star-studded karaoke event. OK, then.

And while the bash decidedly didn’t look like any karaoke event I’ve ever attended as there didn’t seem to a single person yelling “SING JOURNEY!” from the back corner, Serena Williams, Jack Sock and “Orange is the New Black” stars Laverne Cox and Uzo Aduba were all in attendance. So that’s kind of an upgrade.

While the sports world wonders if Serena can salvage the Grand Slam season with a win at Flushing Meadows, the world No. 1 did nothing to help speculation during the evening. She did however get her Marilyn Monroe on and performed “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend,” complete with choreographed dance steps and a whole lot of sass.

BUT HOW WILL THIS TRANSLATE ON THE COURT? DOES THIS MEAN SHE IS TOO FOCUSED ON JEWELRY TO CONCENTRATE ON THE US OPEN? CAN SHE PUT HER SINGING DREAMS TO THE SIDE FOR TWO WEEKS TO WIN TITLE NO. 18?!? I have no idea, but I do think an “OITNB” cameo might be in her future.

And while it wasn’t actually the freaking weekend baby, Sock still decided to have him some fun with a rousing rendition of R. Kelly’s “Ignition.”

If you need me, I’ll be working on scoring an invite to the 2015 edition of this party for the next year or so.
