Update: USC Investigating Linebacker's Heroic Story
This story has been updated from its original version.
USC defensive back Josh Shaw became an Internet sensation after he told coaches he risked his future in football to save his drowning 7-year-old nephew at a family function on Saturday. When the senior cornerback saw his nephew struggling in the water, Shaw said, he jumped off a second-story balcony onto concrete before going into the pool to rescue his nephew.
Shaw suffered two high ankle sprains and will be sidelined indefinitely, according to the school.
Among others, Shaw earned kudos from New York Giants linebacker Devon Kennard, a former Trojan.
What a selfless act by my friend Josh Shaw... Praying for miraculous healing! #FIGHTON— Devon Kennard (@DevonKennard) August 25, 2014
But then doubts about the story surfaced.
USC head coach Steve Sarkisian says school has received calls questioning Josh Shaw's heroic story of saving nephew. USC is now vetting.— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) August 26, 2014
