My biggest win so far

I really can't put words to the feeling of making my very first Grand Slam semifinal. But it feels awesome, and I can say I really like it.

I have been very comfortable and relaxed here in Melbourne all tournament long, and that has helped me a lot so far. I've been able to take that onto the court and enjoy my matches, really play my own game and let the results happen. So far that's been working pretty well.

After beating Serena Williams in Wednesday's quarterfinals at the Australian Open, Sloane Stephens will play No. 1-ranked Victoria Azarenka in Thursday's semifinals.

When I woke up Wednesday morning I had a good feeling about the match against Serena. I wasn't sure I would win, but I wanted to play my best and see what would happen. I talked to my coach, David Nainkin, about the usual things, the same as any other day -- what I wanted to focus on and accomplish in the match. (I can't really tell you all the specifics because I don't want to give everything away.) He said to just go out and have fun, do my thing. So I tried to do just that.

After I won, Serena was very nice and said, "Great match and good luck," to me at the net, and that was it. I was checking my phone, and messages just kept coming in. I would say I received more than 200, but I haven't had a chance to respond yet because I have to wait for them all to load. It's crazy. I am a little worried about my phone bill! I wanted to buy something nice for myself if I played well in this tournament, but now I think my mom is going to say I have to use that money to pay off this enormous phone bill. I tried to call her right after the match, but I got my brother instead. He was pretty much freaking out -- he could barely get a sentence out.

Postmatch, I went to Pizza Napoli for dinner again, because you just don't mess with something that's working! I've been there almost every night since I got to Melbourne. On Monday night, the owner came and talked with us for a while -- he had recognized us since we had been there so many times over the past week. It was pretty funny.

I'll now try to get some rest before I play Victoria Azarenka on Thursday. Since she’s No. 1 in the world, she obviously has a great game. She’s really consistent and likes to hit off the baseline, so it will be a good matchup. I need to approach it like just another day on court. I'm going to stick with my strategy of doing my own thing, playing my own game and we'll see what happens. I'm really excited to get out there!
