Jennifer Capriati dropped the first set of the gold-medal match at the 1992 Olympics against Steffi Graf, but rallied to win.

On this day in 1992, the Summer Olympics opened in Barcelona, and a 16-year-old American would become golden. Jennifer Capriati defeated Arantxa Sánchez Vicario in the semifinal and upset Steffi Graf in the final. Capriati, who had been in the world spotlight since turning pro as a 13-year-old, would go on to win three Grand Slam titles in her career and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2012.
