Maria Forsberg took gold at X Games Munich but finished second to Laia Sanz in Barcelona and Foz do Iguacu this year.

X Games Los Angeles 2013 opens today, and all eyes will be on the women of Moto X. Vicki Golden, who on Saturday will try to become the first woman to win three consecutive Moto X golds when she competes in the Racing event, opens her X Games on Thursday as the first woman to compete against the men in Best Whip. In Enduro X on Sunday, Maria Forsberg, who already is the first woman with three Moto X golds, is looking to tie Tarah Gieger as the most decorated woman in X Games Moto X history with six medals. Forsberg could also become only the sixth athlete in X Games history (winter or summer) to earn at least six consecutive gold or silver medals in the same discipline starting from his or her rookie appearance. She already is the only athlete (male or female) to earn a medal at all five Enduro X competitions ever held. So far this year, though, Laia Sanz has won two golds compared to Forsberg’s one. Gieger, for her part, could add to her total by medaling in either MTX Racing or Enduro X.
