Big day in Broncos' history
On this day in 1999, the Denver Broncos won their last championship with a 34-19 victory over the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl XXXIII in Miami. It was the team’s second consecutive Super Bowl win and quarterback John Elway’s final game before retiring. At 38, Elway became the oldest starting quarterback to win the Super Bowl and was named MVP after completing 18 of 29 passes for 336 yards, one passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown. The Broncos jumped out to a 17-3 lead in the second quarter and the Falcons were unable to rally. KISS, Cher and Tori Spelling participated in the pregame ceremonies, and Stevie Wonder, Gloria Estefan and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy took over halftime duties. Sunday will mark the team’s first Super Bowl appearance since.
