Hooray for hoops: A football-free Wednesday
For the first time in what seems like six months, there is not a single football game -- college or pro -- on the schedule tonight. Don't worry, there's plenty going on to keep you busy. Here's what we're watching.
Women's Basketball: Villanova (7-6, 0-1 Big East) at No. 2 UConn (12-1, 2-0 Big East), 7:30 p.m. ET. It's the first game of the rest of the their non-streak lives. The Huskies host Big East foe Villanova in their first game since their record-setting 90-game winning streak ended last Thursday at Stanford. A win tonight would be an NCAA women's basketball record 70th straight home victory. The men's consecutive home win streak is held by Kentucky, who won 129 straight home games from 1943-1955.
Men's college basketball: UAB (10-2) at No. 1 Duke (13-0), 7 p.m. ET, ESPN2. Duke's Kyle Singler needs just five points to become the 11th player in Duke history to score 2,000 in a career. Here's a full preview. ... No. 22 Memphis (11-2) at Tennessee (9-4) (ESPN2, 9 p.m.). The Vols, ranked as high as No. 7 earlier in the season, have lost four of six and look to get back on track against a solid Memphis team. Here's a full preview.
NBA: San Antonio Spurs (29-5) at Boston Celtics (26-7), 7:30 p.m. ET. The NBA's top two teams tip off in Boston as the Spurs come off a 129-115 shellacking by the Knicks. Here's a full preview. ... Los Angeles Lakers (24-11) at Phoenix Suns (14-18), 10:30 p.m. ET, ESPN. The Lakers go for two wins in a row against a struggling Suns team. Here's a full preview.
NHL: Two of the top two teams in the Eastern Conference face off when the Tampa Bay Lightning (53 points) visit the Pittsburgh Penguins (53 points) at 7 p.m. ET. Here's a full preview.
