Melo shines despite drama

NBA: Just hours after Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov announced that the team would no longer try to trade for Carmelo Anthony, the Nuggets star dropped 35 points on the Thunder in a 112-107 win. How do you say "burn" in Russian? Jason Terry and Shawn Marion chipped in 22 points apiece and Jason Kidd scored a season-high 21 to help the Mavs snap a six-game losing skid with a 109-100 win over the Lakers. The loss was just the Lakers' second in their last 10 games. The Spurs rebounded from a poor first half to beat the Raptors 104-95 and snag their seventh straight win.

Men's college basketball: The 11th-ranked Texas Longhorns beat 10th-ranked Texas A&M 81-60. The Aggies had won 13 straight games heading into the contest, but they haven't won in Austin since 2002 ... the drought continues.

Women's college basketball: Back in College Station, A&M's women's team took care of business at home, handing the Longhorns an 80-65 defeat. Aggies senior Danielle Adams was a beast, scoring a career-high 34 points and adding 12 rebounds in her 26th straight game scoring in double digits. Out in Oklahoma, the 13th-ranked Sooners topped Texas Tech 71-61 behind 24 points from Aaryn Ellenberg and 11 points and seven boards from Ben Roethlisberger's younger sister, Carlee. The loss snapped an eight-game win streak for the Lady Raiders, who have now lost 11 straight to Oklahoma.

Australian Open: Rafael Nadal kept his bid to win four straight majors alive on Wednesday with a victory in straight sets over American Ryan Sweeting. Kim Clijsters also advanced to the third round with ease, defeating Carla Suarez Navarro 6-1, 6-3.
