DALLAS -- Big 12 interim commissioner Chuck Neinas will leave his post by July 1, he told ESPN.com Wednesday at the college football commissioners' meetings.

"I've agreed to remain on until the end of June," Neinas said, "so I'm fully confident they'll have a new commissioner to be on board the first of July, and probably earlier."

Neinas helped numerous Big 12 programs hire coaches in various sports with his search firm, Neinas Sports Services. The Big 12's search committee to find his replacement offered Neinas a spot to serve as an adviser for the group, which is led by Oklahoma State president Burns Hargis. Neinas accepted the offer.

"They are in the process of retaining a search firm," Neinas said.

The league's board of directors met earlier this month and formed the search committee.

Neinas took over for Dan Beebe as interim Big 12 commissioner in September 2011. Beebe resigned under pressure from the league's members after Nebraska and Colorado were allowed to leave the Big 12 in summer 2010.

In October 2011, Texas A&M and Missouri announced their departures from the Big 12 as well.

Neinas oversaw the league's admission of West Virginia and TCU, also in October 2011. West Virginia's 2012 entrance to the Big 12 was finalized with a $20 million settlement with the Big East earlier this month.
