Deena Kastor gunning for trials victory

HOUSTON -- For Deena Kastor, it wouldn't be enough to just qualify for the London Olympics by placing among the top three women in the U.S. trials here on Saturday. Kastor says she came to Houston to win the race outright.

Given her credentials, it is hardly an outrageous declaration. Kastor is the only U.S. woman other than Joan Benoit Samuelson, winner of the inaugural women's Olympic marathon in 1984, to claim a medal at the Games; Kastor won bronze in Athens in 2004. Two years ...
